Using search and filters

Here's how to set up search filters, sorting and favourites on 50dating.com.

Help Center Getting started Using search and filters

How do I adjust my search filters (age, distance, gender)?

Search filters are on the Search page, not under Settings.

  • Computer: go to Search via the navigation bar. The filters are on the left or at the top: gender, age, distance and username. With Premium, you'll also see advanced filters. Results update instantly.
  • Mobile: tap the magnifying glass icon, select "Show filters" at the top, adjust the filters and tap Search.

Your filters are remembered. If you're getting few results, try widening the distance to 50 km or more, extending the age range by 5 to 10 years, or setting the education filter to "doesn't matter".

What advanced search filters are available with Premium?

With a free account, you can filter by gender, age, distance and username.

With Premium Basic and Premium Plus, you can also filter by:

  • Children: doesn't matter, no children living at home, or no children
  • Lifestyle: non-smokers only or doesn't drink alcohol
  • Education: doesn't matter, at least secondary vocational, at least higher professional, or university

There are no filters for marital status, living situation, employment status or activity level. Please note: results also include members who haven't yet filled in a particular detail. With Premium Plus, you also get priority placement in search results.

How do I sort search results, and what are Spotlight and Weekly Matches?

In the Search menu, you can choose from the following sorting options:

  • Recommended members
  • Last active
  • Newest members

You'll also find Spotlight (boosted profiles), Weekly Matches and your Favourites in the same menu.

Why isn't the distance shown on a profile exactly right?

Profiles show "± X km driving". This is an estimate of the driving distance between the two towns, calculated from town centre to town centre with a correction for straight-line distance, rounded to the nearest 5 km. It's therefore not an exact route calculation like Google Maps provides. A difference of a few kilometres is normal, especially for larger municipalities.

If the distance is off by tens of kilometres, the profile probably has an incorrect town listed. This happens more often with place names that occur multiple times, such as Well or Heemstede. Check the town via My Profile, Edit Profile, Basic Information or Location. This also applies to the other person's listed town.

How do I set my search area or region?

You can set the distance and default location for searching in two places:

  1. Via Search, filters, distance
  2. Via My Profile, Edit Profile, "What are you looking for?" (this is where you set distance and location)

For Belgian members: provinces aren't used as a separate filter. You search by distance around your town.

Why am I getting messages or likes from members outside my filters?

Your search results respect your own filters. However, other members search using their own filters. If you fall within someone else's preferences, that person can like you or send you a message, even if they fall outside your preferences. This cannot be switched off.

You can ignore the message, block the sender, or slightly widen your own preferences so they better match what you'd like to see.

Why does my dashboard show members who don't match my filters?

The dashboard section "Discover new members" or "Active singles in your area" shows recently active members who match your gender preference and haven't been blocked by you. Premium members are given priority here.

This section doesn't take your age and distance filters into account. These aren't matches specially selected for you. If you'd like results that do match your preferences, go to Search via the navigation bar.

Do I need to match first before I can view a profile?

No. Both free and Premium members can view all profiles, for example via Search, Weekly Matches, Spotlight, the dashboard or your Activity. You don't need a match for this.

A limit per conversation only applies to sending messages if you have a free account.

How do I add a profile to favourites, and where can I find my favourites?

You can mark someone as a favourite by clicking the star icon on their profile.

You'll find your favourites list via Search, Favourites. The person you mark as a favourite doesn't receive a notification about this.
