Community Guidelines

At 50dating.com, people are looking for something valuable: companionship, good conversation, maybe love. That only works if everyone feels comfortable and safe. That’s why we have four rules of conduct. They’re short, and they apply to everyone – free members and paying members alike.

1. No means no

Not everyone you like will like you back. That’s just part of it, and it says nothing about you. If someone turns you down, you’re welcome to respond politely, once. After that, let it go.

Don’t hear anything back at all? That’s an answer too. Don’t keep messaging just because you haven’t had a no yet.

  • Do: “That’s a shame, I understand. Good luck with your search!”
  • Don’t: keep pushing, or try again later with someone who has already said no or hasn’t replied.

2. Keep it respectful, even when it comes to attraction

Romance and physical attraction are part of dating – we won’t pretend otherwise. But save anything suggestive until you can tell the other person is ready for it too. Never in a first message, and certainly not with someone who has just said they’re not interested.

The same goes for images. Never send nude or sexually explicit photos to someone who hasn’t asked for them.

  • Do: pay a genuine compliment. “I really enjoyed reading your profile” or “You look lovely in that photo.”
  • Don’t: suggest what you could do together without being asked, make suggestive comments about someone’s body, or send intimate photos that weren’t requested.

3. Keep the conversation here

Scammers want to move to WhatsApp or email as quickly as possible, because there we can no longer see what’s happening or step in. As long as you’re talking here, we can protect you. That’s why we keep conversations on the site.

You can exchange contact details once you’re both Premium members. It’s also possible once a Premium Plus member has unlocked the conversation: they use a credit to lift the restrictions for that one conversation, for both of you.

Please don’t try to get around the filter, for example by writing your address as “name at gmail dot com” or spelling out your number in words. We do notice, and it counts as a breach of this rule.

Please note: does someone ask unusually quickly to continue talking off the site? Then be extra careful. That’s a common sign of a fake profile.

4. Be who you say you are

Your profile is your calling card. Use a recent photo of yourself, an accurate age and location, and describe honestly what you’re looking for. One profile per person.

You’re here to meet someone, not to recruit or sell. Advertising other sites or services, trading, and offering paid companionship have no place here.

Never allowed: photos of someone else, made-up details, creating a profile on someone else’s behalf, or asking for money – in any form, however convincing the story sounds.

What happens if someone breaks the rules?

Reports are reviewed by a member of our team, not handled automatically by a computer. To assess a report, that team member may view the conversation in question. We look closely at exactly what happened and how serious it is.

Depending on that, we may adjust your profile, limit what you can do on the site, or end your membership. We’ll let you know which rule was involved and what we decided.

In cases of threats, fraud or a fake profile, we end the membership immediately.

Think we’ve got it wrong? Get in touch with our customer service team. We take every case seriously – we sometimes make mistakes, and we’ll reverse a decision when that’s the right thing to do.

Seen something that doesn’t feel right? Report it

You don’t need to sort it out yourself, and you don’t need to be sure it’s “serious enough”.

On every conversation and every profile, you’ll find two options in the menu: report or block.

  • Report goes straight to our team. You choose a reason – fraud, harassment, fake profile, inappropriate content or other – and you can add a few words in your own words.
  • Block means this member can no longer contact you or see you. You can lift a block at any time.

Reports are confidential: the other person will never learn from us that it was you. We’d always rather have one report too many than lose a member who stopped feeling comfortable here.

Have you already transferred money? Please also report it to the police and to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk . They can do more than we can, and the sooner you act, the greater the chance something can still be recovered. Let us know too, so we can take action on the profile.

These rules of conduct explain how we apply our terms and conditions in practice.
